What is the Value of your Words?

I've been fascinated by the fact that certain people speak for a few minutes or hours and are paid millions. While others speak endlessly everyday with nothing to show for it. Worse still others spread lies, deceit with their lips. What is the value of your words? What you say determines the quality of the life you live and the kind of people that will be attracted to you.

One scripture readily comes to mind. It says "A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth, and with the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied". What you constantly do with your mouth eventually fills you up. When you are given to raining abuses at no cost, or criticising others at every chance, you are filling yourself with the very same stuff you're giving out.

In case you're wandering what to begin to do with your lips, or what  to say here's a tip from Proverbs 20:15. It says "There is gold and multitude of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel". Let your heart begin to desire knowledge, seek to know more, and your words will be a delight to those who hear you. The lips of knowledge is a precious jewel. People do not just buy jewels. They usually bid for it. People will search you out when your words are filled with knowledge.

Paul puts it this way to the Ephesians, he says "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, THAT IT MAY  MINISTER GRACE UNTO THE HEARERS". Let your words be loaded with grace and not condemnation. Speak edifying words, be generous with compliments, encourage others freely.

As you stay in the pursuit of knowledge you'd become someone that everyone wants to listen to. Others will pay to have you speak to them. Do not underestimate the power and value of your words.

Central Truth: Your words have value but you determine what it's worth.
